IAAM Life-Mindful Community of Practice (CoP)

IAAM Life is a healing-centered Community of Practice that empowers African Americans as agents in the creation of their well-being, . IAAM Life provides healing-centered mindfulness training classes, and retreats for African Americans, People of Color, and White allies in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV); specifically, the members in Wards seven and eight of the District of Columbia.

IAAM Life provides ongoing programming to:

  • Support the embodiment of mindfulness to strengthen family and community bonds.

  • Embody mindfulness practices in daily life.

IAAM Life CoP fosters family and community interconnection. Our programming incorporates a healing-centered approach. According Shawn Ginwright Phd., a healing centered approach involves culture, spirituality, civic action, and collective healing for members who desire to live a balanced life.

TYA|Mindful Teens of Color

Currently, IAAM delivers mindfulness training and practice twice per month to Taratibu Youth Association/ IMCW Mindful Teens of Color. These healing centered mindfulness circles support the cultivation of a positive mindset to aid in the mitigation of stressors and support compassionate interactions with peers in the community. Members in these circles develop skills in the areas of:

Exploring self and social awareness.

Supporting responsible goal setting, decision making, and self-management.

Exploring community building through friendliness, acceptance, compassion, and empathy. More information →

Mindful Parents

With the Early Childhood Innovation Network (ECIN) and Educare DC. Mindful Parent Circles is a healing centered Community of Practice that incorporates mindfulness, movement, and contemplative practices to families in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) most specifically,  the community stakeholders in Wards seven and eight of the District of Columbia, Prince George's County, Maryland, and Baltimore, Maryland.
